Kitties and Daffodils

I recently adopted the mantra, "People are just doing the best they can; try not to judge them too harshly." Everyone is just trying to be happy, yo.

I talk about Doctor Who, NBC's Thursday night line-up, interspecies friendships, Song of Ice and Fire, my boy, UGA football, positive body image, and generally happy things.

Rant About Above The Law Hating On Duke Law

So. This article came out today. In which ATL basically says Duke Law is stupid for giving basic dressing advice to 1Ls. There are a number of things that drove me nuts about this article, so bear with me.

1) We do this program because people legitimately don’t know how to dress. During OCI my 2L year, I saw guys with the vent in their jacket still tacked, girls whose jackets were so tight that the vent didn’t lie flat, and girls where you could see spanks in the vent of skirts. Yes, this stuff seems straight forward, but for a lot of people it’s not. If you’ve been working in Big Law for a while, you don’t think about this stuff when you’re getting dressed, but when you’re a young girl who wants to look good, sometimes you don’t understand the line between looking good for a job interview and looking too sexy. It’s hard, and this program wasn’t ridiculous. There is nothing in the entire post that is at all unreasonable.

2) Hey, 1L who wrote in to ATL. I hope you’re pleased. Did you really think you could write in complaining about your school and they wouldn’t figure out which school it is? Obviously you did, because you tried to redact information to hide the identity of the school. I’m glad you know how to dress. Some of your classmates don’t. Even after this, you will be shocked at some of what you see at OCI. And now you’ve made our school look bad further. You’re an idiot.

3) This kind of shit is why I don’t read ATL. Overdramatized bullshit that doesn’t matter. Let’s pick at things that aren’t a big deal and pretend it’s a scandal. Quit being stupid. Report on stuff that matters.
