The U.S. military tells NBC News Japan has asked for assistance responding to the massive earthquake and tsunami. (@AnnCurry)
Here are some groups poised to respond to the Japan earthquake. You can help by donating to these nonprofits.
- The American Red Cross has volunteers in Hawaii and California while other Red Cross National Societies are helping their communities prepare for the tsunami by working alongside the emergency services. The Hawaii Red Cross is supporting tsunami warning and potential evacuation efforts. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Japan. Follow their latest messages on Twitter. - Catholic Relief Service personnel throughout the Pacific are ready to assist those affected by the Japan earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan early Friday morning. You can donate here.
- U.K.-based charity ShelterBox is sending a response team to assist with the devastation after the Japan earthquake and Tsunami in the Pacific.
- Convoy of Hope‘s Disaster Response team has been up a good part of the night and is in full disaster response mode in Hawaii. www.convoyofhope.org. Follow them at @ConvoyofHope.
- World Vision staff in Papua New Guinea have positioned supplies for up to 2,000 people in case the waves cause major damage, the group said. Make donations here. You can follow @WorldVisionUSA or check www.worldvision.org for updates.
- Oxfam’s team is ready to respond in Tsunami-affected areas following massive Japan earthquake (@Oxfam). Donate here.
- The Salvation Army Hawaii ready to assist if tsunami hits U.S. pacific coast (@SalvationArmyUS). Donate here.
- Soles4Souls plans to provide aid to victims of the tsunami. Learn “why shoes” and find a drop box here. (@soles4souls)
