Kitties and Daffodils

I recently adopted the mantra, "People are just doing the best they can; try not to judge them too harshly." Everyone is just trying to be happy, yo.

I talk about Doctor Who, NBC's Thursday night line-up, interspecies friendships, Song of Ice and Fire, my boy, UGA football, positive body image, and generally happy things.

To paraphrase Patrick Henry: I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty to draw Mohammad in a beat suit or give me death!
[slog.]

See… this irks me.. Like, I understand you have free speech and thats not coming in to question. It’s offensive to draw/depict him. You have the right to say the “n word” as well but you don’t say it, out of respect. You don’t say you’re constitutional rights are being questioned, you just don’t do it out of respect and because you know it’s wrong.

It’s not the fact that they drew Mohammed in a bear suit, it’s the fact that they drew Mohammed at all. There are some things that you don’t do Islam (hi, ever noticed how there are no pictures of humans or animals anywhere, just geometric designs inside mosques?), just like there are some things you’re not supposed to do in Christianity or Judaism. Obviously, you have the right to say or draw or do whatever you want, but you’re being BEYOND FUCKING DISRESPECTFUL AND OFFENSIVE, and I don’t have time for your shit. Fuck The Daily What.
ALSO TERRORISTIC THREATS ARE ALWAYS BAD AND I DO NOT CONDONE THEM. HAD TO ADD A FUCKING DISCLAIMER BEFORE ANYONE TRIES TO JUMP DOWN MY THROAT.

I understand what you’re saying, but at the same time, it’s unrealistic to expect people who aren’t part of a religion to comply with that religion’s rules. Jews can’t get offended every time someone on TV eats pork. Christians can’t get offended every time someone takes the lord’s name in vain. I mean, I guess they could, but they can’t expect it to get edited or taken off the air.
So why is this different? Why is it that something considered wrong as part of the Muslim faith can suddenly be off limits for a TV show, especially one known for being ridiculous? The n-word comparison is fair, perhaps, but it’s not like South Park tries to be respectful of anyone. Why set up the expectation now?

“Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” isn’t about free speech. It’s a campaign of ignorance and hate. I’m sorry you can’t recognize that.

My comments were mainly directed at the show, not “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,” which is largely based on ignorance, but not hate, I don’t think. People think they’re a lot funnier than they are.
