When you drink your tea, just drink your tea.

"When you drink your tea, just drink your tea. Please don't drink your suffering, your despair, your projects. This is very important. Otherwise you can't nourish yourself." -Thich Nhat Hanh.

Lawyer, SEC grad, aspiring prosecutor.

I adopted the mantra, "People are just doing the best they can; try not to judge them too harshly." Everyone is just trying to be happy, yo.

I talk about NBC's Thursday night line-up, book quotes, my husband, UGA football, positive body image, and generally happy things. Also, to quote Jessica Day, "I hope you like feminist rants because that's kind of my thing."

I also run a tumblr that's almost exclusively animal pictures and gifs, but occasionally other happy, 99.9% non-political things. You can find that at http://joyisalwaysworthit.tumblr.com/

Guys, I have been riding the bus to work every morning. And this week, on my ride, I have been rereading The Art of Power by Thich Nhat Hanh (which is the book “just drink your tea” came from).

Every time I do this, I feel like an idiot, because there is a reason I named my tumblr after this, and it was to remind me that I need to practice mindfulness and I need to do these things. Because when I do, everything is so excellent. I just feel 500 times better and more like myself and my stresses don’t burden me as much.

So when I get stressed out and I am losing it and I am breaking down, please, please remind me to practice mindfulness. It is not a waste of time.

Thich Nhat Hanh says, “We already have enough time to be attentive to all the people and things that are important to us.” And this includes ourselves.
